Between 2007 and 2014, assault rate in Canada was decreasing on average by 3.08 % each year, although before that, it grew from 165.7 cases per 100,000 population in 2005 to 176.7 cases per 100,000 population in 2007.

“Assault” means physical attack against the body of another person resulting in serious bodily injury; excluding indecent/sexual assault; threats and slapping/punching. 'Assault' leading to death should also be excluded. (UN-CTS M3.2)
