Between 2012 and 2015, international reserves in Italy was decreasing on average by 5.85 % each year, although before that, it grew from 75,773 million US dollars in 2006 to 181,670 million US dollars in 2012.

According to the IMF definition, international reserves consist of the sum of the country’s foreign exchange, its reserve position in the IMF, its monetary gold reserves, and the United States dollar value of SDR holdings by its monetary authorities.
