Between 2010 and 2014, health expenditure as a share of GDP in Spain was decreasing on average by 1.05 % each year, although before that, it grew from 8.1 % in 2005 to 9.6 % in 2010.

Total health expenditure is the sum of public and private health expenditure. It covers the provision of health services (preventive and curative), family planning activities, nutrition activities, and emergency aid designated for health but does not include provision of water and sanitation.
