Stratospheric Ozone Depletion - Consumption of Ozone-Depleting Substances - Methyl Bromide

(ODP Metric Tons)

Mexico is being the top country by consumption of methyl bromide in the world. As of 2013, consumption of methyl bromide in Mexico was 327.1 ODP metric tons that accounts for 22.59 % of the world's consumption of methyl bromide. The top 5 countries (others are Argentina, Guatemala, Chile, and South Africa) account for 77.68 % of it. The world's total consumption of methyl bromide was estimated at 1,448.3 ODP metric tons in 2013.

Ozone-depleting substances are any substance containing chlorine or bromine that destroys the stratospheric ozone layer. The stratospheric ozone absorbs most of the biologically damaging ultraviolet radiation.
